Today was one of my student's last day at school. He is transfering to another school district. His dad walked into my classroom this morning before school, and I jumped up out of my seat and told his dad that he wasn't allowed to take student A. His dad just laughed and said he and his wife wished that he could stay with me. We talked for a few moments and then I thanked Mr. M for making my first year of teaching a great one. Student A's parents are just wonderful. I truly wish that more parents could be like them. They were the perfect parents. Mr. M stopped in his tracks, turned around, and said, "This is your first year teaching? No, that can't be right. You are much to good to be a first year teacher." Of course after Mr. M told me that I had a tear in my.
Okay fast forward to 3:15pm. Mr. M comes to pick up student A. Student A is still taking a Mock Taks test (I know what you are thinking--"A mock taks test the day we get out for spring break??--I know I thought the same thing) Anywho student A hasn't finished yet so he stays a little after school to finish. Student A finally is done and he cleans out his desk and is ready to go--I bent down and told him never to give up and always keep his head held high. Student A begins to cry--I begin to cry again. His father tells me that I have been the best teacher that he has ever had.
The way that I look at this whole situtation is that my time with Student A was up. My work had been complete and he no longer needed to be with me. I guess the great man above needed him to be with me just a short period of time, and that was it...
